Do You Have to Leave Your Home During a Window Replacement Project?
Window replacement seems like it will be a straightforward project, but it actually takes as much careful planning as other home upgrades. There are a couple of bases to cover, one of which is deciding whether to stay somewhere else temporarily during the window replacement process. But is leaving your home actually necessary?
No, You Don’t Have To Leave
Compared to other home improvement projects, window replacement is not as disruptive to your daily routine. The only components involved are the windows, after all. Depending on the number of crew members (and the number of new windows you’re having installed), the window contractor may work on one or two rooms at a time. This leaves most areas inside your home unoccupied, so there actually isn’t any need to stay somewhere else until the project is finished.
Window replacement is also not time-intensive, so the work may be completed in a day. In cases where the home is larger, and the number of windows to be replaced is bigger, the work should conclude on the second day. A third one usually isn’t needed.
Preparing for Window Replacement
There are a couple of things you can do to make your window replacement run more smoothly. You should, for instance:
- Make sure you and your window installer are on the same page about preventing damage and reducing mess in your home and property during the project.
- Have small children or pets stay in a room that’s furthest away from the window replacement site to ensure their safety.
- Any small items around the windows should be stored elsewhere, and any large furniture that can’t be moved should be covered to protect them.
