How to Spot Commercial Roofing Hail Damage in Central Point, OR

After a hailstorm in Central Point, your commercial roof might look fine from the ground, but appearances can be deceiving. Damage can hide in plain sight until it becomes a costly leak.

We strongly recommend against climbing onto your commercial roof to investigate. A steep, slippery, or storm-compromised roof is dangerous. Leave the detective work to professionals who have the safety equipment and training to spot what matters.

Our inspections go beyond obvious dents. We aim to separate cosmetic issues from structural damage that threatens your building. A small dent on a metal panel may be cosmetic, but hairline cracks in a TPO membrane are structural damage that can lead to water infiltration and expensive problems.

The age of your roof also matters. An older roof, brittle from years of sun exposure, is more vulnerable to cracking from hail. A newer, more flexible system can often absorb impacts that would shatter an aging one. Understanding what causes problems in commercial roofing systems helps put hail damage in context with other year-round threats.

Differentiating Hail Damage from Normal Wear and Tear

Every roof ages from sun, wind, and rain, but hail damage leaves a unique signature.

Hail creates random, localized damage patterns that differ from gradual, uniform aging. On asphalt shingles, hail causes scattered “bruises” or pockmarks where granules are knocked loose, exposing the asphalt. This contrasts with sun-related granule loss, which is more even.

Metal roofs show dents and dings that catch the light differently. Inspectors may use chalk to make shallow depressions more visible.

Modified bitumen and built-up roofing systems exhibit bruising, creating dark spots or shallow depressions. You might also see cracks radiating from impact points. These are different from blisters, which are rounded bubbles from trapped moisture.

TPO and PVC membranes show punctures, cracks, or distinctive “crow’s feet” patterns and semi-circles. These look nothing like the uniform fading or cracking from sun exposure.

Splatter marks—starburst patterns on metal or siding—are another clue, showing where hail hit hard enough to spray dirt outward, indicating the storm’s intensity.

In contrast, sun damage appears as widespread fading, uniform curling, or cracking over large areas, without concentrated impact zones.

Visible Signs of Commercial Roofing Hail Damage in Central Point, OR

Knowing your roof type helps you understand what damage to expect. Here’s what commercial roofing hail damage in central point or looks like on common materials.

TPO and PVC membranes: These popular single-ply systems can suffer punctures, cracks, “crow’s feet” patterns, or concentric semi-circles from hail. Resistance depends on membrane thickness and reinforcement.

Metal roofing: Dings, dimples, and indentations will be scattered across panels, flashing, and vents. While some dents are cosmetic, severe impacts can damage protective coatings and compromise the metal’s integrity.

Modified bitumen (Mod-Bit): Look for bruising (dark spots or depressions) where hail compressed the material. Hail can also crack or fracture the membrane, exposing underlying layers.

Built-up roofing (BUR): These systems show cracking, broken blisters, and displaced aggregate. When the protective gravel is knocked away, the underlying asphalt is exposed to UV rays, accelerating deterioration.

Asphalt shingles: Though less common on large commercial buildings, hail can leave dents or dark spots from granule loss. Missing, cracked, or curled shingles are also signs of damage.

Also, check rooftop equipment. HVAC units, vents, and skylights often show dents, cracks, or breaks, confirming your roof likely sustained damage too.

The hail damage you don’t see is often the most dangerous. Ignoring commercial roofing hail damage in central point or sets a timer on bigger, costlier problems.

Even minor-seeming impacts create microscopic weaknesses that accelerate your roof’s aging, leading to gradual deterioration. A 20-year roof might suddenly need replacement in 12 years. Frequently Asked Questions about Commercial Roof Hail Damage

Here are answers to the most common questions we hear from commercial property owners in Central Point about hail damage.

How does the age of my commercial roof affect its susceptibility to hail?

An older roof’s materials are more brittle and less resilient due to years of UV exposure. This degradation makes the materials far more prone to cracking or fracturing when hail strikes, whereas a newer, more flexible roofing system can better absorb the impact.

If your roof is near or past its expected lifespan, even moderate hail can cause significant damage that a newer roof would withstand. This is why proactive maintenance is crucial for defending against commercial roofing hail damage in central point or.

Can small hail still damage a commercial roof?

Yes, small hail can absolutely damage your commercial roof, especially when driven by high winds. While it may not create dramatic dents, it causes subtle but concerning damage.

On asphalt surfaces, small hail causes significant granule loss, which accelerates aging by exposing the roof to UV rays. On membrane systems like TPO or PVC, it creates micro-fractures that grow over time and lead to leaks.

This damage often goes unnoticed until it causes leaks months or years later. That’s why a professional inspection is recommended after any hailstorm, regardless of the hail’s size.

What is the difference between cosmetic and structural hail damage?

This distinction is crucial for determining whether you need immediate repairs.

Cosmetic damage affects your roof’s appearance but not its performance. Small dents on a metal roof are a classic example; they are unsightly but don’t compromise the roof’s ability to shed water.

Structural damage, however, compromises the roofing material itself. This includes cracks, punctures, or fractures that create pathways for water to enter. Structural damage directly threatens your roof’s ability to keep your building dry and requires prompt attention.

A professional inspection can differentiate between the two, ensuring you make informed decisions about repairs and don’t let critical damage go unaddressed.

I just wanna give a shout out to one of your guys who jumped out of vehicle to help me push my van out from 62 onto coker Butte this morning awesome job and thank you so much..

Linda Marie Eppler

No hassles, no stress roofing contractor.

We've worked with a number of contractors over the years doing home improvement projects and I can say that, without question, working with Pressure Point was about as easy as it gets.

Everything about the project, from sales all the way to final inspection, went like clockwork and without a hitch.  They delivered more than they promised, on time and within budget.   We could not have been happier with their personnel, products and services.  Highly recommended!

Steven Belsky

I've changed my review from a 1 star to a 4 stars. Matt Stone got right on a pretty poor job done installing a skylight. He had his guys remove the skylight, move it, repair the roof and inside ceiling to its original state, paint it, repair some external trim that was damaged, and all within a few days after talking to him about the multiple problems. It was really an eyesore from the inside. I'd give a 5 star if this had been done well the first time. The skylight just didn't fit the space I first wanted it and was told it would. More communication about the potential problems might have allowed this to be done right the first time. But, Pressure Point Roofing gets 5 starts for making amends and correcting a pretty ugly problem, very fast! Thank you.

I needed someone to come out to take a look at a leaky roof. I contacted Pressure Point Roofing, LLC. and they came out the same day. They gave me a quote to fix the problem and I agreed to their terms. It was about 4PM and I knew they closed at 5PM but they stayed and fixed the leak at no additional cost. I was very happy and impressed. Would recommend them to anyone. Thank you Pressure Point Roofing for earning our families trust. Will definitely be doing business with you again.

Dan LePari

Wouldn't be good if I didn't think the best of my own company right?!

Matt Stone

Excellent experience, prompt and professional estimate, showed up on schedule (actually a day early) and did a thorough and complete job. All personnel were professional, polite and great at their jobs. Would recommend to anyone.

Karen Teliantyler-Tyler

I am so happy I chose Pressure Point to replace my 40-year-old roof.  The crew was professional, efficient, and answered all my questions, addressed the few concerns I raised, and made me feel comfortable, trusting them with such a big project.  I couldn't be happier with their work and the look of my new roof.
