How to Prepare Your Home for a Siding Installation
Replacing your siding is a major home improvement project. Once you have hired a siding contractor for the job and purchased your new siding boards, the next thing to do is to prepare your home before the installers arrive. Fortunately, doing so can be simple.
Trim the Landscaping
Beautiful landscaping on your property can boost your curb appeal, but trees and shrubs may get in the way during the siding installation. Thus, be sure to trim or tie them back, and cut the grass short. Doing so can make it easier for the siding installation team to pick up any stray nails or staples. You should also take the time to cover your flower bed or garden with a drop cloth or tarp to keep them from getting damaged.
Clear Your Exteriors
Since your siding contractor needs to access all parts of the exterior wall, it’s best to clear your property and remove outdoor furniture and other items on your lawn or patio. The team may also need extra lawn space to store new material and dumpsters to discard your old siding boards. If you have lawn decorations or removable solar lights near the pathway, consider moving them temporarily to a safe place to prevent damage.
Remove Wall Fixtures
During the siding installation, the walls inside your home may vibrate, causing wall fixtures to fall. Thus, remove framed photos, art pieces, hanging plants and other fixtures ahead of time. Additionally, it’s also a good idea to remove fragile items that may fall from shelves and tables as removing the old siding and installing the new one can cause some shaking. You should also cover other pieces of furniture in your home with dust covers to prevent dust from circulating.
