Differentiating Insert and Full-Frame Windows Replacement

There are two different types of window replacement installations: insert and full-frame. As homeowners, you might be wondering which is your best option when you are planning for a window project. In this post, window and residential roofing experts share what you need to know:

Differentiating Insert and Full-Frame Windows Replacement

Insert Window Replacement

Also known as “frame-in-frame replacement” or a “pocket window,” this is the most common window replacement option because it is more user-friendly. It leaves the interior and exterior trim undisturbed. The existing opening must be structurally sound in order for the casing and trim to stay in place.

According to roof repair and window experts, an insert window is a perfect option when you are already content with the size, shape, and operating style of your existing window. It is an energy-efficient and low-maintenance window replacement option. The installation process is generally less extensive and costs less.

Full-Frame Replacement Windows

This kind of window replacement removes everything including the sashes, framing, and trim, and then installs a new unit, insulation, and trim work. By exposing the original opening, full-frame replacement allows for inspection and repair of areas with rotting wood and water damage where the existing window’s failure has allowed weather into your home’s structure. It’s best recommended when older windows have deteriorated beyond repair, making insert window placement impossible.

Full-frame replacement gives maximum quality and energy efficiency because it is almost like new construction with the new casing, trim, and sills as well as flashing for water protection. Additionally, the glass viewing area is often larger with the new window because the exterior trim is minimized. However, you can expect a longer installation process and typically costs more.

Both options for replacement windows are effective. Regardless of the type of replacement window you choose, Pressure Point Roofing, Inc. will help you with your window replacement project. No hassles, no stress roofing contractor.

We've worked with a number of contractors over the years doing home improvement projects and I can say that, without question, working with Pressure Point was about as easy as it gets.

Everything about the project, from sales all the way to final inspection, went like clockwork and without a hitch.  They delivered more than they promised, on time and within budget.   We could not have been happier with their personnel, products and services.  Highly recommended!

I've changed my review from a 1 star to a 4 stars. Matt Stone got right on a pretty poor job done installing a skylight. He had his guys remove the skylight, move it, repair the roof and inside ceiling to its original state, paint it, repair some external trim that was damaged, and all within a few days after talking to him about the multiple problems. It was really an eyesore from the inside. I'd give a 5 star if this had been done well the first time. The skylight just didn't fit the space I first wanted it and was told it would. More communication about the potential problems might have allowed this to be done right the first time. But, Pressure Point Roofing gets 5 starts for making amends and correcting a pretty ugly problem, very fast! Thank you.

I needed someone to come out to take a look at a leaky roof. I contacted Pressure Point Roofing, Inc. and they came out the same day. They gave me a quote to fix the problem and I agreed to their terms. It was about 4PM and I knew they closed at 5PM but they stayed and fixed the leak at no additional cost. I was very happy and impressed. Would recommend them to anyone. Thank you Pressure Point Roofing for earning our families trust. Will definitely be doing business with you again.

Wouldn't be good if I didn't think the best of my own company right?!

I am so happy I chose Pressure Point to replace my 40-year-old roof.  The crew was professional, efficient, and answered all my questions, addressed the few concerns I raised, and made me feel comfortable, trusting them with such a big project.  I couldn't be happier with their work and the look of my new roof.
